DESCRIPTION: Take a photo-journal trip across the globe in search of Martian terrain.  The quest to understand the history of water, and possibly life, on Mars takes shape here on Earth, as NASA scientists seek out Mars Analogs.  Ride in the backseat as we visit the Atacama in Chile and the Great Salt Lake in Utah, and discuss some engineering behind the search.

  1. Discussed current conference details.  Venue, contract, etc
  2. Discussed conference event agenda, etc. in general
  3. Discussed publicity – we need to put out public announcements
  4. Assigning some follow up event details, such a meals, and menu’s  (make a committee for this)
  5. Update plan for training and include date for final decision of what to offer – we’ll need to get this into updated announcement
  6. Discussed technical presentations – select committee, etc
  7. Discussed vendor coordinator and get that solicitation into action
  8. Open discussion

DESCRIPTION: The arrival of new companies such as SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, and Blue Origin created a new buzz in the aerospace industry.  These companies have decided to deviate from the classical aerospace philosophies that have been in use for decades and innovate their way into a competitive position.  Some companies like SpaceX have even taken the lead.  This briefing exposes a potential future for the aerospace industry based on current knowledge and facts. Dinner is included with Vegetable Chop Suey, Chicken Low Mein, and cold beverages.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Dr. Jeffry Padin is a Senior Engineering Specialist with Aerospace Corporation currently working as a member of NASA’s Space Mission Assurance Team for the Dragon 2 manned spacecraft since May of 2016.  Dr. Padin is currently resident at SpaceX observing and reporting to NASA all manufacturing and integration activities related to the Dragon 2 spacecraft.

DESCRIPTION: Special guest speaker Robert Gerhart, the Director of Engineering in the Northrop Grumman Advanced Design/Special Programs organization will be leading the presentation on “The Wright Brothers: Then and Now”.

Robbie will share his knowledge and perspective on who the Wright Brothers were, what inspired them, and how they engineered the first practical airplane, detailing his presentation with photos and information gathered during a recent trip to the sites the Wright Brothers made famous: the homes, workshops and testing locations still open for visitors today.
