Abstract
The methods and processes to produce quality weight reports range from large legacy mainframe systems to laptop spreadsheets. This paper presents an alternate method of producing weight reports that combines proper database controls with flexible document generation. These reports also provide additional information such as weight trends across periodic weight reports and graphical representation of the position of the centers of gravity in relation to the ship. The weight reporting method presented is based on open source software and is flexible, portable, and affordable to develop and maintain.
