Paper

G W Fleck, L K Johnson: 2208. Mass Distribution: Its Importance, Challenges and Process, Made Easy. 1994.

Abstract

This paper discusses the important role that mass distribution plays in the static and dynamic performance characteristics of mechanical systems, the challenge in predicting it with reasonable accuracy and how weight engineers are duly qualified to provide this critical analysis. The paper than covers the process of performing mass distribution analysis and how the latest computer technology can make what was once an arduous task a ”piece of cake”. The bottom line being, once a good mass model is established, the computer will do all the work and the engineer simply needs to specify how the data is to be sliced.
