Abstract

Advanced technologies in materials and structures are progressing more and more towards the continuing objective of weight improvement on modern transport aircraft.
A summary of the currently used improved metallic and non-metallic materials on advanced aircraft is the introducing part of this paper. This is followed by a discussion of the new generation of materials and their substantial weight improvement potential. As the main subject an analysis of the resizing effect, i.e. weight improvement factor, on the overall design is presented.
