Abstract

The Destroyer Synthesis Computer Algorithm (DESCA) program was developed to reduce the convergence
time in the feasibility/concept design process for destroyer-type ships. The program is designed to
satisfy given stability requirements, i.e., beam to GM ratio. The program is an interactive type of
model that queries the user in order to establish ship parameters. The program calculates various
ship parameters such as ship size (length, beam, depth and draft), ship’s internal volumes, weights,
and centers of gravity. This program has proven to be an effective tool in establishing a baseline
weight estimate. It has saved considerable time in establishing starting points for feasibility studies.
