Abstract
A review is made of the activities at the Douglas Aircraft Company leading up to the introduction of advanced composite materials into commercial aircraft. The ongoing flight service evaluation of composite structure is discussed. Composite materials are considered to be viable for many future applications with widespread usage later in the decade in primary structures.
