Abstract

Economic pressures requiring greater operating efficiency find airlines establishing programs to define and implement ways of conserving fuel.
The Major thrust of many of these programs is to reduce the operating empty weight of the airplane.
The Lockheed-California Company has been actively engaged in indentifying and implementing weight reduction proposals to reduce the empty weight of the L-1011 Tristar family of airplanes using advanced technology. The list of items presented is not exhaustive, but is intended to present savings that can be achieved from a number of areas. Many of these proposals lend themselves to retrofit with varying degrees of complexity.
