Abstract

At the McDonnell Aircraft Company, division of McDonnell Douglas Corp., methods have been developed to increase the effectiveness of the weights engineer through the use of Computer Aided Technology with interactive graphics.
This paper discusses the methods developed for (1) the calculation of mass matrices for flutter and loads analyses, (2) the calculation of fuel volume and mass properties as functions of fuel depth and vehicle attitude, (3) landing gear weight analysis, and (4) center of gravity travel calculation and plotting. Also presented are benefits derived from the use of this system.
