Abstract

Good afternoon. It is a pleasure to be here to discuss the automotive materials outlook at General Motors. The topics of material usage and availability are very important to us at GM and will remain so for at least the next decade.
The United States auto industry is facing one of the greatest challenges ever. We must produce durable and safe cars with minimal emissions while providing fuel efficient vehicles which satisfy customer desires.
To do all this has meant literally redesigning our cars from the ground up. At General Motors, this process is well underway and is causing significant changes in automotive design.
This afternoon I’d like to tell you about our corporate material requirements program, changes in our products, future material requirements and finally some factors possibly affecting the future availability of some materials.
