Abstract

A numerical integration program for desk-top computer use has been developed for optimizing the weight and geometry of liquid propellant tank bulkheads. The program was used recently to evaluate thin gage tankage subject to the wide range of load conditions typical of a cryogenic propellant upper stage employed in conjunction with the Space Shuttle. It permits assessment of the impact of fluid inertia/ullage pressure combinations on weight and hoop forces in various bulkheads.
