Abstract
A wing box beam, manufactured almost entirely of Boron Epoxy Composite material, was designed and manufactured at the Grumman Aerospace Corporation and successfully tested at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
This paper deals with a quick method of sizing these Boron Composite lay-ups based on strength. Data is provided for strength under tension, compression and shear for lay-ups oriented in the 00, 900, 450 direction.
Finally, a non-optimum factor is defined, determined by comparing the estimated weight with that calculated from engineering drawings.
