Abstract

This paper discusses the state-of-the-art of advanced filament production, metal-matrix composite
fabrication processes, and mechanical property determinations. Information is presented to provide an understanding of the basis for preliminary selection of metal-matrix composite material candidates currently suited for continued development, assessment of their applicability to advanced, high-speed aircraft which have been studied for potential operational capability this decade, and projection of their pertinent characteristics and properties for use in conceptual systems design and analysis.
