L F Sofal: 712. Recent Developments in the Trend Toward Use of SI Units. 1968.

Abstract

This paper states that the increase in interest in the use of SI unite in the mid-1960s was due to the economic impact of world-wide trade and the availability of a complete set of coherent units for all quantities of physics and engineering.
Examples are cited of several large companies with foreign subsidiaries who had begun to use dual dimensioning for all product drawings, this being the first logical step toward use of SI units.
The need for a factual governmental study on the feasibility of converting to the SI is presented.
