Abstract
Cost/weight relationships exist from the supermarket to the sophisticated launch vehicle. Historically, cost estimates for many programs have been of poor quality. Today ,an additional decision-making tool is available to management–the cost/weight analysis. To improve our cost/weight analysis we must begin now to
1. Improve techniques of collecting cost/weight data,
2. Catagorize the data,
3. Exchange the data more freely,
4. Encourage a dialog among the aeronautical weight engineer, the cost accountant, and the operations research specialist.
This paper outlines the well-known linear regression analysis, provides an insight into new techniques being developed and provides a reference to other related material.
