Abstract
This paper was presented at the Twentieth National Conference of the Society of Aeronautical Weight Engineers at Akron, Ohio, May 15 – 18, 1961. Associated with the introduction and the operation of turbo-prop and turbo-jet transport aircraft, with single or several passenger class cabin arrangements, many new problems have been encountered by the airlines in the realm of efficient aircraft load dispatch methods and devices. As always, these problems are pressing for solutions compatible with present and future trends. Revolutionary solutions in the technology, concerned with these matters, are, as it may seem, still a long way off.
Regarding some of to-day’s considerations,
the operating parameters of new aircraft present troublesome considerations not dealt with before,
the national and international airline policies of pooling passenger and cargo traffic, operating fleets, aircraft maintenance and ground handling activities, etc., make standardization of these almost a mandatory necessity,
the operating speeds, by which an airline passenger is moved, also demand greatly accelerated ground handling processes while he is in the care of the airline,
the increasing stress of catering, continually and at a faster and faster pace, to passenger conveniences and comforts, is placing competitive and larger burdens on the airlines, as time goes on,
and,
the airline weight engineer must be fully conversant with all these operational aspects and must coordinate his technical efforts to suit the ever growing requirements of the subsequent growing body of airline people, all having a vested interest in the aircraft dispatch loading processes to be designed and/or formulated.
