Abstract

The purpose of this report is to present an outline of a specification for basic data to be presented to the airlines for weight and balance evaluation. Also included is a discussion ot the need of the airlines for these data; a format for these data, which complies with the outline; and a discussion of the information required. The report outlines the problems faced by an Airline Weight Engineer in evaluating the weight and balance characteristics of a proposed aircraft are often unique to that particular airline. Widely varying requirements of individual Airlines makes it practically mandatory that they perform their own weight and balance studies. This implies that the Manufacturer must furnish them with adequate data to perform this function. It is desirable that this information be contained in a single document.
With these considerations in mind, an outline of a specification for the standard presentation of such data has been formulated. This outline is presented in Part II. While the information called for in this outline is not as extensive it provides all of the essential information necessary to provide a satisfactory evaluation of the weight and balance characteristics of a proposed airplane.
