Abstract
In designing structures for flight vehicles which must operate in high temperature environments, it is necessary to choose materials which will withstand thermal stresses in addition to normal load factors. In analyzing for optimum material combinations, the weight advantages or penalties which may accrue must also be taken into account. In this paper, a method is presented for selecting material combinations which result in low thermal stresses and reduce structural weight to a minimum. Two example problems are given.
