Abstract
A method is presented for calculation of the mass and mass moment of inertia of a liquid in a circular cylindrical tank. The tank is assumed to be similar to that of a vertically rising ballistic missile. That is, the acceleration is assumed to be parallel to the tank’s longitudinal axis. It is found that for the moment of inertia to be of use, the method of treating the liquid must be coordinated between the Weights Department and the Dynamics Department. A solution is found which greatly simplifies the efforts of the weights and dynamics groups, while giving proper consideration to the physical effects involved.
