J R McCarty: 129. Continuation of the Survey of Average Passenger Weights. 1955.

Abstract

This paper re-examines the history of the presently used average passenger weight. In previous studies. CAA Safety Regulation Release No. 198, dated February 15, 1946, established the present average passenger weights of 165 pounds winter and 160 pounds summer. These values were based on statistical data obtained from various sources which had shown that the general average of personal weights was lower than the 170 pounds used as the computing standard prior to that time.
