Abstract

The potential for rotary-wing craft as air transport vehicles is ever increasing. In order to improve performance of helicopters to compete with other transport means, both air and ground, it is necessary to start in the preliminary design stages to develop the optimum configuration. To achieve this end it is necessary to utilize all of the engineering skills and methods available. The utilization of an efficient and realistic technique in the application of statistical weight analysis methods to preliminary design is one of the skills that can be used to aid in realizing this goal.
