Abstract

The Aircraft Growth Factor can be used to find the right combination of the important variables, it can be used to find the correct avenues of design improvement, it can be used to find the gross weight cost of every item of performance and quality, and it can be used to find the minimum weight aircraft to meet any fixed requirements.
The Aircraft Growth Factor, therefore, is a tremendously effective tool in aircraft design and in evaluation of these designs. Because of this, it is essential that what it is and how it affects design decisions be clearly understood. Although it is difficult to simplify even the definition of the Growth Factor, the definitions, development, and examples presented here are intended to clarify not only the growth factor concept but also its utility and value.
