Abstract

As a preliminary to this discussion it may be well to generalize on the basic differences between pneumatic and other types of system3. Pneumatics is best suited to intermittent applications where high peak loads are involved. Such services as brakes, bomb bay doors, landing gear flaps, gun charging, wing folding, etc., are the most ideal types of applications. This is because the pneumatic system has the facility of storing large amounts of potential energy in receivers or reservoirs which may be utilized whenever necessary.
