Abstract

To test the performance of spacecraft attitude control systems, Schenck has developed a three-axes space simulation platform. It consists essentially of a cylindrically shaped cage made of lightweight aluminum structural members, supported at its center of gravity by a spherical gas bearing. Angular motion is 360o about the (vertical) roll axis, plus/minus 10o about the pitch and yaw axes.

Various means are employed to reduce error sources to a minimum so that accurate comparison between calculated and actual performance of attitude control systems may be made.
