Abstract | An approach to the problem of weight and balance determination is presented in this paper without adding an entirely new method to the rapidly growing number of load devices. An attempt has been made to rework the numerical index system which is, fundamentally, the simplest and most flexible system of all. The balance calculation has been integrated into the weight tally on the loading manifest so that the airplane center of gravity (CG) is automatically established. This eliminates the only major disadvantage attributed to the numerical index system: the addition and subtraction of positive and negative index values which possess little or no perceptible relationship to airplane balance. Data is presented in sufficient technical detail to guide individuals wishing to develop this system for their own particular airline operation. |
