Georgetown Loop RailroadSunday, May 22, 2016: (Daytime)
Georgetown Loop and Lebanon Silver Mine

Ride a private train on the Georgetown Loop, considered an engineering marvel for its time. The Loop takes you between the towns of Georgetown and Silver Plume two miles apart in a steep, narrow mountain canyon. The tracks scale an elevation of 640 feet over mountainous terrain. The route includes horseshoe curves, grades of up to 4%, and four bridges across Clear Creek, including the massive Devil’s Gate High Bridge 100 feet above the river.

The Lebanon Silver Mine tour takes you 500 feet into a mine tunnel bored in the 1870s. Your guide will point out rich veins of silver and tell you about early-day mining. The temperature inside the mine is a constant 44 degrees Fahrenheit, so bring a jacket. Closed toed shoes are recommended We will depart the hotel at 9:15 am and return to the hotel by 4:00 pm. Your fee includes lunch and all costs except alcoholic drinks and pictures.

Pearl Street MallMonday, May 23, 2016: (Daytime)
Celestial Seasonings, Dushanbe Tea House, and Pearl Street Mall

Lunch will be at the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse. The elaborate and creative teahouse was completely built by hand without the use of any power tools. Constructed in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, as a gift to their sister city, Boulder, it was disassembled, crated up, and sent halfway around the world to be rebuilt in Boulder as a symbol of friendship and cultural exploration. Followed by shopping along the beautiful Pearl Street mall. We will board the bus at 9:30 am and be back at the hotel by 3:30 pm. The fee includes transportation only. The three organized events for this are the Sunday Welcome Reception, Tuesday’s Standards and Practices Luncheon, and, of course, Wednesday’s closing Awards Banquet, where the history and heritage of the SAWE will be on display. All members, attendees, and guests are invited to join us. Separate registration and payment is required for each, including for exhibitors.

  • Welcome Reception – Start the conference week off right with a drink and light hors d’oeuvres with your fellow SAWE members. Meet in the Atrium of the hotel and meet new people or rekindle old friendships.

Cost: $10 for light hors d’oeuvres (not dinner). Cash bar.

  • Standards and Practices Luncheon – Enjoy a plated luncheon with our luncheon speaker. Dietary restrictions will be accommodated (just let us know on your conference registration).
  • Awards Banquet – The Awards Banquet closes our conference and allows us to honor all those who have had a part in running our Society for the past year or more. We induct our new international officers for 2016-2017, introduce the latest Fellows and Honorary Fellows, confer the Best Paper Award and Student Scholarship, and present all the other accomplishments of note. A cash bar will be available during our Silent Auction before the banquet and a limited time at the beginning of the banquet.
