Abstract
This paper discusses multi-class loading developments. This paper discusses an indexing methodology for dual class loading. Passengers were combined and the moments of the combinations were grouped. Passengers were grouped to reduce the size of the chart. The range of moments (both maximum and minimum) were arbitrarily divided into 20 equal increments and index numbers assigned. A table of maximum and minimum index numbers as a function of the combination of passengers results. Maximum and minimum balance loads were calculated for each index.
This paper also discusses the loading complications of using a tabular load chart for aircraft with a variable position stabilizer, such as that on the Boeing 707, Douglas DC-8, and Convair 880. The problem was that a tabular load chart only shows if the C.G is within the limits. With the Boeing 707, it is determined that the C.G. location is influenced so pronouncedly by the effect of the fuel, and can be set as a function of the fuel load only. Some compromises on loadability were made. An alternate solution would be to use an index loading system instead of using a tabular load sheet, as the location of the loaded C.G would be known.
