Abstract

The idea of an ‘All-Electric’ airplane which does not require on-board or ground-support generation of hydraulic or pneumatic power is quite attractive at first glance. Facets of this concept have received much study over the last few years (primarily in the commercial arena) and many benefits and pitfalls have been determined. The most likely scenario is development of a ‘More-Electric’ airplane that incorporates those features that provide benefits for a specific design. This paper surveys some of the key design issues and projects hypothetical airplane implementations.
