Abstract
The energy price evolution in the past had considerable repercussions on the design requirements of the new generation of civil aircraft. The engineering staff involved have been challenged considerably to meet these new targets of fuel burn reduction. New technologies have been applied in all major aircraft design areas such as:
– structures
– aerodynamics
– propulsion
– systems
This paper describes the major important structure technology advancements applied so far and to be used in the future on the Airbus A310. Special emphasis will be given to the application of CFRP to primary structure (in box) and industrial processing such as SPFDB (Superplastic Forming and Diffusion Bonding) of titanium components and advanced casting methods.
