Abstract

A simplified method for preliminary weight/cost trade-offs is presented. Wing
and fuselage weighted models are established and compared to a baseline con-
figuration. Gross weight,load factors,wing geometry,outboard stores and
fuselage volume determine the models. Relative values of weight and cost factors allow a comparison between different material utilization and structural
configurations. Plots of cost versus weight are used to arrive at decisions for
preliminary structural design. Examples of wing and fuselage structural
weight and cost matrices are presented.
