Abstract

PRD-49 is a new organic fiber, developed and produced by the Du Pont Company. The Boeing Company is evaluating it for use in aircraft structures.
This paper compares the characteristics of PRD-49 with the characteristics of contemporary materials. The application of PRD-49 to various BO-105 helicopter components is discussed with the tail boom design treated in greater detail.
Weight and costs effects of PRD-49 on the BO-105 are also discussed and the author concludes that PRD-49 material is weight effective.
