E R Hood: 636. Weight Engineering – Aeronautical vs. Automotive. 1967.

Abstract

When I recently came back into the weight field with Convair division of General Dynamics some of the questions most frequently asked of me concerned weight work in the automotive industry. In fact some people were even surprised that there was such a function performed on automobiles. Well it is true that although no two com- panies operate alike each of the major American auto makers does have a weight activity. However, the mass properties analysis as they perform it is not as exten- sive as it is in aircraft and missile work.
