J R McCarty: 355. Review of Governmental Weight and Balance Regulations – Compatability With Today’s Operating Conditions. 1962.

Abstract

This paper was presented at the Twenty-first Annual National Conference of the Society of Aeronautical Weight Engineers at Seattle, Washington, May 14-17, 1962. Under the heading of an ‘Industry Review of Governmental Weight and Balance Regulations’ approximately 50 airlines and airframe manufacturers were requested to submit suggested revision and/or clarification material pertinent to that subject.
Since the present FAA regulations are apparently not causing undue hardship, there is, understandably, some reluctance to tamper with them. It is also realized that regionally approved ruling or interpretations have been received by individual operators that may cause them to feel that they have no interest in this Society project. However, if there is sufficient interest or unity as concerns particular parts of the Governmental Regulations, it is the intent that an official airline position be formalized and the FAA petitioned to revise or amend the Regulations accordingly.
