Abstract
The structural problems associated with high-speed flight are discussed. The term, ‘Thermosonics’ is introduced to denote any velocity where elevated temperature due to aerodynamic heating becomes a structural problem. The important criteria for material selection are outlined and materials, contemporary and future, are discussed in regard to these criteria.
