Abstract

In recent years scientific endeavor practicably in the fields rocket and aircraft propulsion has required improved metrology in the fields of large masses and forces. Requirements now exist to ensure forces in the range of 1,000 to 5,000,000 lbs. with accuracies of k 0.05% or better. Such requirements as these have provided the impetus for a largest ride in the ability of standards labs throughout the country to provide calibratic in services in these high error ranges. In addition, The National Bureau of Standards has responded to these requirements with clearer definitions of the unit of force and more precision in its generation. Universally, the most precise forces are generated in calibration facilities relying on mas as a standard.
