Abstract

Structural weights of existing high performance marine vehicles, principally hydrofoil craft, are examined to
determine the design or geometric parameters that have significant effect. For total structural density are
shown to be governing. Similarly, the governing parameters and the loads which determine scantlings, where
known, are compared to develop measures of efficient use of structural material. These figures of merit are
applied to a number of existing high performance marine vehicles and projections of what might be attainable
in the future are made.
